Functions and responsibilities of advisors and Journal personnel

1. Editor-in-Chief

General Functions:

  • Officially represent Scientia et PRAXIS before national and international indexing, evaluation, and funding bodies.

  • Ensure compliance with the ethical and scientific quality principles defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  • Approve the editorial policy, regular and thematic issues, and oversee the final acceptance or rejection decisions.

  • Guarantee transparency, traceability, and fairness throughout the editorial process.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Review each new submission and determine its thematic and methodological relevance.

  • Coordinate the work of the Associate Editor, Section Editors, and the Scientific Committee.

  • Issue the final editorial decision on manuscripts, taking into account the recommendations of reviewers and the Scientific Committee.

  • Authorize the publication of each article and ensure compliance with editorial timelines (maximum 12 weeks).


2. Associate Editor

General Functions:

  • Supervise the entire editorial workflow, from submission to publication.

  • Ensure effective communication between authors, reviewers, and the editorial team.

  • Coordinate the implementation of peer review, style, and metadata policies.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct the initial review of format and content in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Assign each manuscript to the appropriate Section Editor, according to the topic and specialization.

  • Designate external reviewers, with the support of the Scientific Committee, ensuring their expertise and absence of conflicts of interest.

  • Consolidate reviewer reports and prepare editorial decision letters for authors.

  • Oversee the technical, orthotypographic, and stylistic editing of accepted articles.


3. Section Editors

General Functions:

  • Manage the peer review process within their specific thematic area.

  • Promote the submission of high-quality manuscripts aligned with their section’s research focus.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Review the thematic and methodological relevance of assigned manuscripts.

  • Select, together with the Associate Editor, two specialized reviewers and coordinate the double-blind review process.

  • Examine reviewer reports and prepare a consolidated technical summary with editorial recommendations.

  • In case of discrepancies between reviewers, propose the appointment of a third adjudicating referee.


4. Scientific Committee

General Functions:

  • Ensure the academic quality, originality, and scientific relevance of published works.

  • Serve as a consultative body in strategic editorial decision-making.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Recommend highly specialized reviewers and contribute technical evaluations in emerging areas.

  • Advise the Editor-in-Chief on the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts in cases of doubt or conflict.

  • Periodically evaluate the quality and impact of the journal.

  • Propose topics for special issues and priority editorial lines.


5. Editorial Board

General Functions:

  • Support editorial management during preliminary evaluation and content development stages.

  • Strengthen the journal’s visibility within academic and institutional networks.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the initial review of manuscripts to assess pertinence and quality.

  • Promote the dissemination of calls for papers and contribute to the academic positioning of the journal.

  • Propose editorial policies, publication guidelines, and internationalization strategies.


6. External Peer Reviewers

General Functions:

  • Evaluate manuscripts objectively, confidentially, and impartially under the double-blind review system.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed technical reports addressing structure, methodology, theoretical contributions, and results.

  • Recommend one of four options: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.

  • Declare any potential conflicts of interest prior to accepting the review.

  • Adhere to the review deadlines established by the journal (maximum 12 weeks from receipt of the manuscript).


7. Authors

General Functions:

  • Guarantee the originality, accuracy, and scientific quality of their submitted work.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all data and results are reproducible and verifiable.

  • Address reviewer feedback and submit revised versions within the established deadlines.

  • Comply with the journal’s policies on ethics, copyright transfer, and open access.


8. Technical and Editorial Production Team

General Functions:

  • Ensure the visual, typographic, and digital quality of each issue.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform orthotypographic and style editing of accepted articles.

  • Design and format articles in PDF and EPUB versions.

  • Integrate inclusive audiovisual resources when applicable.

  • Manage DOI assignment, metadata registration, and submission to databases and indexing systems.
